What is the meaning of Communion?

Before Jesus was crucified for our sins, he instituted "the Lord's Supper" or what churches now commonly call their "communion service." In the Bible we read, The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

The communion service is a time for us to remember that Jesus died for our sins. It is a memorial service when we honour the memory of His supreme act of sacrificial love for us. The communion elements (bread and juice) represent (but do not actually become) the body and blood of Jesus. They remind us of the fact that "Christ died for our sins." (1 Corinthians 15:3)

Who should should eat and drink the Communion elements?

The communion service is for all people who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, regardless of their church affiliation. You do not need to be a member of Beulah Alliance Church to take communion. Parents are requested to discern their children's understanding of faith and readiness to participate. In the Bible we are told to "examine ourselves" (1 Corinthians 11:28) before participating in communion. It can be a time of confession of any known sin to God and to seek restoration with those we may have sinned against.

When do we celebrate Communion?

We hold a communion service once a month.
